Last fall, American Prairie partnered with the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Armed Forces Initiative to film Wild Again. This cinematic documentary follows U.S. Navy Veteran DJ Zor as he returns to the outdoors to find a new sense of purpose while on an elk hunt in the heart of the prairie.
BHA’s AFI program engages veterans and active-duty members through hunting, fishing, and land stewardship initiatives. Their goals are to provide veterans with the tools for a lifetime of experiences and help inspire a new life mission – conservation.

American Prairie works to provide public access for all, and with that comes our science-based approach to wildlife management, which includes hunting. We’re proud to be one of the largest landowners participating in Montana’s Block Management program, with over 80,000 acres enrolled across eleven properties. Block Management is a cooperative program between landowners and FWP, providing the public with free hunting access to private land and adjacent public land.
DJ’s unique bowhunting opportunity on Blue Ridge is an excellent example of how we prioritize high-quality outdoor experiences and healthy wildlife populations. Since acquiring the property in 2019, American Prairie has offered a special free drawing for 18 individuals to hunt world-class bull elk. People who draw the limited-entry permit for the Blue Ridge Special Management Area receive three days of exclusive access to this property. Every year, eight archery hunters, two youth hunters, and eight rifle hunters have the chance to roam this unpressured and pristine habitat in search of elk.
