Who:
We are looking for a communicative, self-motivated volunteer who:
- Is hospitable to the public and will respond accurately to general questions.
- Can work independently and travel long distances alone in remote areas.
- Can safely navigate dangerous roads and use a map (GPS or smartphone preferred to navigate complex ownership).
- Has a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
This volunteer role can be shared by a couple or pair of individuals.
What:
During duty hours the volunteer will perform light maintenance of huts and trails, as well as visitor and interpretive signs. This work could include:
- Perform weekly hut checks and light cleaning between visitor groups. Complete mowing and basic maintenance of trails, as well as upkeep of visitor and interpretive signs.
- Positively engage public visitors to provide information and answer questions.
- Monitor buildings and property reporting damage, issues, or unusual activity to Volunteer Manager.
Where:
The PN unit (near Winifred, Montana) is located at the confluence of the Judith River and the Missouri River in north central Montana.
- RV pad with full hookups, as well as a covered barn space is provided.
- The property is accessed via 25 miles of gravel and unimproved road which becomes impassable when wet and requires an AWD or 4WD vehicle.
When:
This position will be on site May 1st – August 15th, 2025, with flexible arrival and departure dates. An average of 30 hours per week will be required. The general schedule will be 7am-10am and 3pm-6pm Thursday through Monday, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off.
Provisions:
- $300 monthly reimbursement for personal expenses incurred by volunteering
