We are excited to announce our Prairie Webcams are now live! While nothing can replace exploring the prairie in person, our webcams allow you to view this incredible landscape from anywhere in the world. Currently, two cameras are streaming, but we look forward to growing this project. The expansion of our webcams will include a prairie dog camera coming this summer.
The first camera sits on the northeast corner of the Enrico Education and Science Center on Sun Prairie, overlooking the Telegraph Creek riparian area and rolling hills. This camera sits within 100 yards of multiple beaver dam analog sites. If you tune in over the years, you might notice this stream’s slow but steady regeneration as woody vegetation and native plants return.
The second camera sits on the northeast corner of the White Rock Lodge, overlooking Beaver Creek and the prairie grasslands beyond. Bison, mule deer, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, bald eagles, barn swallows, and more all frequent these cameras.
Using existing structures on the prairie, we installed both cameras and began streaming without disrupting existing habitats. We’re grateful for the knowledge and passion of the teams at HD on Tap and Waterfall Innovation to get this project off the ground.
