American Prairie’s Collaboration with Smithsonian

American Prairie is proud to partner with Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute on scientific research and restoration efforts on American Prairie lands. Visit the Smithsonian website to learn more about the research team and to experience some of the work happening on the prairie!

Along with this ongoing prairie research, American Prairie has collaborated with Smithsonian on the bison exhibit at the Smithsonian National Zoo. The two female bison at the Zoo came from the American Prairie herd! The bison, affectionately named Lucy and Gally, were transferred across the country from American Prairie to Washington, D.C. in 2020 when they were one year old. Read more about Lucy and Gally here.
